What a year it’s been for Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge who not only found her Prince but has become one of the most talked about fashion icons too!
As their official engagement pictures hit the press the high street was hit with replicas of her designer wardrobe at a snippet of the price enabling us all to be Princesses. Whereas before the Royals were considered (some still believe they are) ‘stuffy’, Will and Kate have been a breath of fresh air and brought the Royals into the 21st Century.
Now it’s not just an honour to be a Royal but ‘cool’ too and hopefully young people may find that they can relate to Will and particularly Kate whose humble background will be reflected in this.
This is very much reflected in Kate’s fashion style. She has brought back elegance and class back into fashion with a modern trendy touch. Take her beautiful Navy Blue Issa dress she wore for her official engagement announcement, although very modest (with its full sleeves and knee length) it was at this point modest became sexy and so fashionable.
It was reported that this Issa dress sold out within minutes of it being seen on Kate and the High street, Tesco in particular had an Issa inspired version sell out faster then they were probably produced!
Now that she is officially Royalty (and not just in fashion circles) her style is in demand more then ever. Not only has she brought a new fashion style that has rocked our fashion world but she has shown us that being Royal doesn’t necessarily mean you have to leave your fashion sense outside the Palace gates (ahem! Princess Eugenie!)
But you can compromise with fashion by looking elegant, classy and fashionable without dressing too ‘old’ for your age (which is what some critics said about Kate in the beginning - shame on them!).
Kate’s style is one which is mature, sophisticated but still on trend which is why she has been crowned a fashion icon. Whereas fashion normally dictates that we should ‘flash the flesh’ to be sexy and some fashion trends and styles advocate this in their clothes. Take the body con dress designed to be figure hugging and quite short in length, while it can be sexy to show off those curves, Kate has shown us that the ‘modest’ look can be just as sexy leaving a little something to the imagination (lucky Wills!).
So let’s give a toast to fashions newest iconic recruit that is Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge and Queen of Fashion.
